“It simply works, it does what we need it to do.”

As Nextcom worked toward ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 9001:2015 certification, it turned to Specops Secure Access to add multi-factor authentication at the Windows logon screen.

Growing Compliance Pressure

Before Specops, Nextcom’s users logged into their systems with passwords alone. The organization identified this as a potential security gap as it worked toward ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO 9001:2015 certification, both of which called for stronger identity verification at login.

“We needed to deploy MFA at the Windows logon screen,” said Elvis Henriquez, Regional Operations and Services Manager at Nextcom. “With no existing MFA solution to replace, the team was starting from scratch. We needed something that could be deployed reliably without a large IT footprint.”

Straightforward Purchase

As a small organization, Nextcom needed a vendor that could move quickly and fit its budget. “It was pretty simple, Specops were flexible with us as a small company and the price was affordable,” Elvis said. He presented the solution to the company’s Directors, who approved it without difficulty.

Nextcom didn’t run a formal trial as the team felt the product demo was enough to confirm it met their needs. The team proceeded straight to purchase.

Support Helped Shape the Rollout

The Specops Support team worked with Nextcom throughout the deployment to resolve any issues and get Secure Access fully deployed. One piece of that support proved especially useful for user experience. ISO 27001:2022 requires users to lock their screens whenever they step away from their desk which, without adjustment, meant re-entering MFA every time someone unlocked their machine.

Specops support helped Nextcom increase the login timeout at the Windows logon screen, cutting down on repeated MFA prompts while keeping the organization aligned with its compliance requirement.

Renewed Without Hesitation

For Nextcom, the return on investment was clear enough that renewal wasn’t a question. “It’s definitely given us return on investment, we didn’t hesitate to renew,” Elvis said. “We’d happily recommend Specops to any organization scoping out an MFA solution.”

Nextcom plans to explore other Specops products as part of its roadmap. The organization also intends to resell Specops Secure Access to other organizations, now they have first-hand experience with the product and a firm belief in its capability. Elvis credited the relationship with Specops account manager as part of that confidence: “We keep in touch with our Specops account manager, she has put in a wonderful effort.”
