Specops Software Introduces API for Specops Secure Service Desk to Authenticate End User Identity

New API opens up the ability for organizations to use the Specops Authentication platform to verify end users in ITSM tools like ServiceNow

Today, Specops Software announced the release of a new API for its Secure Service Desk product. This new API enables Specops Secure Service Desk customers to use the Specops Authentication platform to verify end users in other systems.

Specops Secure Service Desk helps organizations protect against the risk of social engineering attacks, like that of the MGM attack in September 2023 which cost the company $100 million. Secure Service Desk prevents the risk of breach from this attack type by technically blocking the helpdesk agent from performing password resets or account unlocks before the end user verifies their identity through the platform.

“We saw a big increase in interest from organizations after the MGM attack last year. Organizations are concerned about the risk a social engineering call to the service desk like the MGM one can pose to their networks.” shared Darren James, Senior Product Manager at Specops Software.

Social engineering attacks grew significantly in 2023, becoming the second most common pattern in breaches, per the 2024 Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report.

“Today’s release helps us extend protection from this attack type beyond the Secure Service Desk interface. Organizations can utilize this API to build in protections in other systems like ITSM tools, further reducing their risk of breach,” continued James.

Help your service desk verify user identities, enforce user authentication, securely unlock accounts, and reset passwords

The API offers the ability for Specops Secure Service Desk customers to extend their enrollment data to other tools, like ServiceNow and Jira (Atlassian). This extension means no extra enrollment step for Secure Service Desk customers to extend their existing identity services to other use cases. Over 20 identity services are available on the platform, ranging from mobile or email verification codes, to commercial ID providers such as Duo Security, Okta, Symantec VIP, PingID and YubiKey.

The API is available for all Specops Secure Service Desk customers, at no extra cost. More information on how the API works is available here. Customers interested in accessing the API to build their own integrations with other systems can reach out to their account managers to enable.
