Migrating a Gatekeeper

With the retiring of Server 2012/r2 fast approaching a question that has risen in popularity is how I migrate my gatekeeper to another server to continue using the product without any issues?

Log on to the server with the gatekeeper you are looking to replace and launch the Specops Authentication Gatekeeper Admin application and locate the Admin pages and Reporting Readers url under Useful Links.

Copy the link and open it on the new server and log in using an account that is a member of the Specops Cloud Admins group.

Once you are logged in, go to the Gatekeepers Tab and click New:

When asked: Are you sure you want to add a new Gatekeeper to your organization? Select Add New:

3. You will be brought to a new page to Download and install the Gatekeeper (Note: This must be done within 24 hours or you will need to add the new Gatekeeper again.) Please also make note to copy the activation code as this will be needed to complete the installation. If you close out of this by accident without copying the code, you will need to go back to Step 2.

Once you run the installer, you will select Install Gatekeeper

You will be prompted to change a series of options during the install, but in most cases, you will select Next until you get to the Select service account screen. Here it is recommended to use a gMSA account and if you have one already in place and it is not the default that the installer populates, you will need to enter this Username manually:

After that, you can select next until you get to the the Configure proxy screen, which if the gatekeeper does not use a proxy, you can skip this step by continuing to select Next.

At the end of the process, you will be prompted for your activation Code. Once entered click activate and click Finish.

Once that is done you will go back into the gatekeepers tab and click on the Gatekeeper you wish to remove and select unregister:

You would then remove the Specops Authentication Gatekeeper and the Specops Authentication Gatekeeper administration applications from the Add/Remove Programs or Apps & features.

Go to active directory with and enable these 2 options:

Then navigate here and delete the old server name under the gatekeepers container:
