Specops supports PingID to secure password resets

Stockholm, November 17, 2020 – Specops Software released an update to its Specops Authentication platform today. The platform secures password resets, password changes, and encryption key recovery with multi-factor authentication (MFA). The introduction of PingID authentication advances security for these high-risk activities. Organizations currently using PingID can now extend the ROI of their existing investment.

The global pandemic has had a significant impact on IT departments who are tackling more support calls while managing new security threats. Locked accounts due to expired or forgotten passwords still make up a significant number of the support call volume, as remote work aggravates the problem. This is not only draining IT resources, but also introduces risk due to insecure user verification at the IT service desk.

“Allowing users to securely regain access to their accounts, anytime, anywhere, reduces the call center load, and associated risk” said Lori Österholm, CTO at Specops Software. “Offloading high-volume support calls to self-service can be a quick win especially when you can extend existing authentication methods that are already in place.”

The Specops Authentication platform secures self-service, and service desk assisted password resets, remote password changes, and encryption key recovery. The shared MFA platform offers over 15 identity providers including third-party authentication from Duo Security, Okta, and now PingID. By supporting multiple use cases, and existing authentication investments, it reduces end-user adoption barriers by allowing users to be pre-enrolled into the system, and allowing the enrollment data to be shared across various high-risk use cases.

“The success of a self-service project is dependent on user adoption” Österholm said. “Specops Authentication removes the adoption and usability barriers organizations can face when rolling out self-service, as it supports factors that may already be in place. If users need to default to the IT service desk, the same factors can be used to verify callers before agents provide access to the account.”

IT admins currently using PingID can use this service to verify user identities to secure self-service password resets or password resets at the service desk.
