Press release: Specops Deploy enables mobile workforce
- Specops Deploy 5.0 supports UEFI and Windows 8.1
- Mobile workforce can access PC software
- One deployment solution for Windows XP to Windows 8.1
Stockholm, Sweden – February 4, 2014. Specops Software announced today the release of Specops Deploy 5.0 that brings the power of simple desktop management to tablets. Now companies can create standardized desktop environments which let employees take their PC environments with them.
Specops Deploy 5.0 automates the installation of operating systems, software, and applications in Microsoft Active Directory environments. Specops Deploy extends the functionality of Group Policy and can be used to target any number of user and computer objects within Active Directory. It can be used to save user state during installation, manage user local settings, capture operating system image, and remotely manage and monitor multisite deployments.
With the addition of Windows 8.1 deployment, Specops Deploy 5.0 supports all of the Windows operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 8.1. Specops Deploy 5.0 supports the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), making it a trusted automated deployment solution for both PCs and tablets.
“Bringing in support for UEFI and Windows 8.1 makes Specops Deploy 5.0 a modern deployment solution that addresses the needs of a mobile workforce,” says Thorbjörn Sjövold, CTO of Specops Software. “More and more companies and schools are using Windows tablets to perform critical business tasks, but it’s been difficult for IT departments to create a controlled tablet environment. We make this possible, which means companies can enjoy the efficiency improvements, while knowing what is going on with the tablets.”
The new release of Specops Deploy adds support for operating system deployment and updates of Windows 8.1. This means that one deployment solution can manage all of the current Windows operating systems. Specops Deploy will continue to support Windows XP after the end of life date in April 2014.
“There are a lot of companies that haven’t yet migrated off of Windows XP and we don’t believe in adding to that time pressure,” Sjövold says. “With Specops Deploy, companies can choose when they are ready to upgrade and we will continue to support the version they are running. Specops Deploy is the best automated deployment solution for small and mid-sized companies that are looking for a cost-effective way to manage operating systems and applications.”
The Specops Desktop Management product family continues to develop with recent releases adding support for multi domain and multi-deployment groups, making it easier for hosting companies to serve many customers, and the ability to administer Forefront Endpoint Protection using Active Directory and Group Policy.
