Installation

The content below is intended for IT administrators and can be used to help install and evaluate Specops uReset. For more information about the components and concepts used below, see the Specops uReset Solution Overview.

Key Components


Specops uReset consists of the following components and does not require any additional resources in your environment.

Gatekeeper: Manages all operations against Active Directory such as changing/resetting passwords.

uReset Administration Tool: Configures the central aspect of the solution, such as Gatekeeper registration, and enables the creation of Specops uReset settings in Group Policy Objects.

Authentication Client (formerly known as uReset Client): Presents a link to the Specops uReset Web application on the Windows logon screen, and presents end-user notifications about enrollment requirements. The Client is not required, but highly recommended for all domain joined client machines.

Cloud: Contains the web components, and Security Token Services.

Requirements


Your organization’s environment must meet the following system requirements:

NOTE
Windows Server 2012 is recommended for features such as the delegated helpdesk functionality.

Installation


For new installations of Specops uReset, please refer to the installation instructions for Specops uReset 8 here.

For older installations, please contact Product Support.

Post-installation


You should complete the following configurations once you have installed Specops uReset:

  1. Create a Specops uReset GPO.
    Click the provided link and expand Group Policy Snap-in.
  2. Enable authentication to the uReset.web website
  3. If you are using a proxy internally, you will need to add an exception to bypass authentication, and let the system browse to the Specops Password Reset web page without authentication.
  4. Ensure that users enroll into the system
